Description

Definition:

All employees and subcontractors' employees within the organization who are responsible for the operation of the plant and use of equipment.

Responsibilities:
• Read and understand the company's safety statement and carry out your work in accordance with its requirements.
• Do not operate any plant unless you are 18 years or over and have an appropriate SOLAS CSCS/CPCS/NPORS (or approved equivalent) ticket, which is current and appropriate.
• Know the legal requirements affecting the use of your machine and ensure that the machine is used in accordance with those requirements.
• Ensure that any defect in the machine is reported immediately to the plant manager. Do not continue to operate the machine if the defect affects its safe use.
• Ask for and use ear protection to ensure that you do not suffer from gradual loss of hearing due to prolonged exposure to noise.
• Never try to use the machine for work for which it was not designed. If in doubt, ask the Plant Manager for advice. ¬
• Wear suitable safety footwear and protective clothing as you are exposed to the same hazards as others on the site when not in the cab of your machine.
• Suggest ways to eliminate hazards or improve working methods.
• Ensure when operating your machine that other persons are well clear, especially if reversing.
• Ensure, if necessary, that you work with a banksman and, if so, you are both sure before starting work of the meaning of signals that may be used.
• Report all accidents or damage, however minor, to the site supervisor.
• Check, prior to starting work with the project manager or their supervision, the location of underground or overhead services.
• Ensure that if your machine is used for lifting purposes, it is sited on a firm, level, well-consolidated base with suitable bearing timbers used under extended outriggers, if applicable.
• Ensure regular inspections of the machine are carried out by the driver and relevant statutory forms are kept up-to-date.
• All plants should be fitted with a flashing beacon. A plant with a restricted view should have visual aids in compliance with the construction regulations. Coffey Construction company policy is that 360-degree excavators greater than 20 t should have a camera fitted. Those less than 20t should have a 3-way mirror system.
• Ensure all Machines go through the relevant Test of thorough examination and lifting test where appropriate, as required by Health and safety legislation.
• Ensure lifting devices used by a machine operator are in good working order with relevant current certification.

• Full Driving License
• Relevant cards/tickets to operate machinery
